Legend Lane

'Legend' products are a beauty in their own right but they are not Bossons. The models produced by Legend are often mistakenly identified as Bossons. The following information gives some help in attempt to identifying who produced what product. Legend products often have "Made in England" written on the base.  Another term used by Legend is "Legend Product Copyright". Some of the later Legend Pieces produced by Fred Wright were of an exceptional quality and certainly command good prices

The 'Legend Lane' Company first started trading in 1947 and was formed by by Alec Cochrane. The factory was based in North Wales and was more recently run by son David Cochrane and wife Sheila. There is a Legend 'Collectors Club'.

The Making of Wall Mask (kindly written by Sheila Cochrane)

When the mask is originally modelled from clay it takes many weeks of work. We work with the modeller and we all input our thought and talents into getting the right face. When you think of all the people in the world who have faces and they are all different. It is very difficult to achieve a likeness to somebody especially from all angles. When the clay model is finished we then take a cast from it and in so doing the clay model is destroyed leaving us with a mould. We then make a plaster cast of the model (this is called the OFF the clay model) which goes back to the modeller for more work to put in the fine detail. The wrinkles and skin marks and the eyes etc. When this is finished again after probably a few more weeks we make a new mould. This then becomes the MASTER mould and we leave a plaster cast in it to use for any future mould making. The whole process is very skilful and costly.
